Tuskers get the better of Eagles

The inaugural Sri Lanka Premier Tennis League conducted by Queen’s Club and sponsored by JAT Holdings got underway on Thursday at the Queen’s Club tennis courts with the opening ceremony being graced by Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekera.

Four teams SLT Tuskers, NSB Jaguars, Cargills Eagles and Crown Sharks are in contention in the four-day event which is scheduled to be conclude on July 3.

The first contest between SLT Tuskers and Cargills Eagles saw the Tuskers coming out winners over Eagles by 29 points to 17.

The Tuskers though losing the first singles game which was women’s singles came back to win the men’s singles, open doubles, veteran doubles and the boys singles.

Women’s Singles - Nethmi Waduge (SLT Tuskers) beat Amritha Muttiah (Cargills Eagles) 6/5; Men’s Singles – Nishangan Nadarajah (Crown Eagles) beat Yasitha de Silva (SLT Tuskers) 6/5; Open Doubles – Amritha Muttiah/Kemalie Herath (SLT Tuskers) beat Nethmi Waduge/Prabuddha Perera (Crown Eagles) 6/3; Veteran Doubles – Perumal Gamesh/Ganendran Subramaniam (SLT Tuskers) beat Arjun Fernando/Aasiri Iddamalgoda (Crown Eagles) 6/2; Boys Singles – Avindra Perera (SLT Tuskers) beat Innthujan Selvaratnarajah (Crown Eagles) 6/2
